Media Madness and What is NOT Important

The unbiased press as we know it, in the United States, is dead. There are a few survivors plodding around on the Internet, but mostly it is just white noise. This is not to dredge up the obvious. The days of “old guy” sitting behind a desk on the ten o’clock news and reporting only the facts are gone. Scrolling over a few important headlines today, I found the following to be actual stories that suppose to be of interest to the world:

Jane Fonda reveals she has “great regret” for not sleeping with Marvin Gaye.

Erin Brockovich explain why global warming hits minorities harder.

Adele gets flirty video message from Tom Hanks’ son Chet, both accused of cultural appropriation.

Wear a mask while having sex and avoid kissing new people, Canada’s top doctor advises.

Hair salon had to remove job ad for ‘happy’ stylist because it is ‘discriminatory’ against unhappy people.

California woman dreamed about eating engagement ring — woke up to find she really did.

These are not headlines that are buried. They are used as front page stuff. I mean for the love of Pete NO ONE cares if Miley Cyrus does ANYTHING. Have we devolved so much as a species that this is what kind of news interests us? The news as we know has eroded to pretty much two categories: biased drivel or silly garbage of no interest. Conservative or liberal, report the news as is. All news is not an editorial. On the same note, anything that a “celebrity” does is NOT news.

Anyway . . . Back to La Tour

  1. I just posted this on Facebook related to what you say:
Our society today reminds me of this quote from “Men in Black.”
“A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals….”
It seems we have developed a society incapable of thinking for itself or researching anything for itself. We believe what we’re told from any source without truly looking into things. It scares me.

  2. It’s a global disease. It hasn’t helped that certain people can dismiss anything in the media they don’t like as ‘fake news’, but then, it’s hard to say where the rot started. All we can say for certain is that there’s an awful lot of dross out there, as you point out. But there’s always the Tour. And Sam Bennett in green!
